Our fleet grew to 5 refrigerated trucks in 2020, providing significant capacity to connect food through our food system. Through trucking partnerships, Boston Area Gleaners provides nonprofit food programs with the means to pick up and deliver large food orders to reach more community members.

JUST EATS GROCERY BOXES
When federal relief waned in the latter half of the season, Boston Area Gleaners joined forces with Food For Free to fill the gap. Through the winter, volunteer crews helped get thousands of family-sized boxes of grocery staples packed for households still facing unprecedented levels of food insecurity.

"Boston Area Gleaners stepped up, literally within days, partnering with us to fill the gap in federal relief. Their support enabled us to launch our Just Eats program and provide fresh, healthy food to thousands of people every week during a critical time."

BOSTON FOOD HUB
Boston Food Hub, a new program by Boston Area Gleaners, bridges the gap between local farmers in need of markets and buyers that value local food and nutrition. The Food Hub purchases and aggregates food from our farm partners in MA, and builds on the Gleaners’ efficient food distribution infrastructure to reach local businesses, schools, and other buyers.
The impact of Boston Food Hub is threefold:
Farm partners are financially sustained, and with access to new markets, less of their produce goes to waste.
The reach of local food is broadened, as more institutions and business get access to farm-fresh food at a fair price.
Boston Area Gleaners’ gleaning network is strengthened, as the Food Hub builds revenue for our hunger relief work and deepens relationships with donating farmers.

"Boston Food Hub lets us access an impressive array of high-quality, affordable local produce from farms we wouldn't have worked with otherwise. Over the last year, this relationship has been essential in our mission to increase the availability of fresh food to the community. "
