2020 SEASON IMPACT REPORT

Fiscal Year: 4/1/20 - 3/31/21

COVID-19 RESPONSE

Prior to 2020, Boston Area Gleaners’ season did not usually take off in earnest until the summer harvest season. In 2020, together with a network of partners and dedicated supporters, the Gleaners jumped into action months earlier to get food where it was urgently needed.

As MA experienced the greatest increase in food insecurity of any state in the country, and farmers and distributors were left with tremendous amounts of waste upstream, the crucial need for a more resilient, more just food system became clearer than ever.
4.4 million
pounds of food distributed through the Farmers to Families Food Box Program
"Boston Area Gleaners plays a critical role in helping us meet our goal that 30% of the food we provide to families should be fresh fruit and vegetables. It's not only about the quantity, but also the quality."

PEOPLE HELPING PEOPLE FOOD PANTRY
In 2020, Boston Area Gleaners broadened our collective reach, collaborating with more local food programs and frontline agencies to get more fresh food into our community. Our mission is built on partnership, and our impacts are shared. View our full list of partner agencies here.

GLEANING & FARM DONATIONS

In an unprecedented year for on-farm gleaning, volunteers and team members adapted to new safety protocols with ease, committed to connecting the dots between farmers with surplus produce and families without access to fresh food.
