Help power food recovery and distribution by collecting and donating boxes.
We rely on banana boxes—the boxes that bananas are shipped in—to pack and transport gleaned crops for frontline organizations. You can help support local food security by collecting banana boxes from grocery stores, corner stores, pantries, or anywhere that sells bananas.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR VOLUNTEERS
At your convenience, call your local grocery store, food pantry, or anywhere that sells bananas, and ask an employee if they have any empty banana boxes (with lids!) available to donate to a local food access organization.
We ask that you only collect and drop off boxes that are fully intact. Please avoid boxes that are torn, ripped, soiled, or wet. This saves us the time and energy from needing to break down and recycle. Thanks so much!
Note: You do not need to register online as a volunteer in order to collect boxes.
Fit as many boxes into your car as you are able.
Deliver the boxes to the Gleaners' drop-off site at our headquarters at Stonefield Farm (91 Martin Street in Acton).
Upon arrival, on the right you will see two shipping containers between the white garage and greenhouse. Boxes can be stacked inside the container on the left. Come by and drop off at any time of day!
Either scan the QR code found on the sign outside the container or record your name on the sign-in sheet found inside the container to record your contact information and number of boxes donated!
BANANA BOX REWARDS!
After you log your name on the sign-in sheet or via the QR code, we’ll keep a running total of the boxes you’ve given and will be in touch to give you merch in recognition of your efforts!
