Winding Down and Layering Up!

11/26/2012

44,637 lbs. as of 11/26/12

It is the end of the growing season for many farmers, which means we have been busy picking up and gleaning crops they could not sell and that are left in the field.  This means a lot of greens.

In the past two weeks we have harvested and distributed over 1,000 lbs of kale! In the last couple of days we also harvested broccoli, collards and  brussels sprouts, which are in the same cold hearty brassica family.

Before thanksgiving we picked up almost 1,500 lbs. of  Blue Hubbard squash from Kimball fruit Farm in Pepperell, and we will head out there again tomorrow to pick up another load of assorted winter squash. Until consistent cold temperatures settle in, we will be out in the fields harvesting.

Layer up and join us!
