Volunteer

Experience the beauty of area farms while at the same time performing a community service.  In the summer we usually set forth at eight to beat the heat, arriving at the farm by nine, gleaning the offered produce by around noon, returning by one -- half-a-day.  In the Fall we leave later, after the sun burns off the dew, sometimes taking with us a picnic lunch.  In general farmers prefer weekday visits, but we do arrange gleaning on the weekends as much as possible.  Rarely do we get much notice: often its "come glean before we plow it under, in order to succession plant two days from now."
